Omnivision, The Company of California has recently developed the world’s tiniest imaging camera, Omnivision is winning the world Guinness record for it.
The world tiniest camera is sized at 0.575mm which is equivalent to a grain of sand. This tiniest camera sensor delivers a 40,000-pixel colorful image while using its RGB Bayer chip.
The camera has a 1/36 inch optical format and it is capable of capturing 200×200 resolution video at 30 frames per second.
While using the Omnivision’s proprietary sensor tech, The camera is capable of producing clear, sharp images even in very low-light conditions.
This camera can shoot up to 120 degrees around it the best thing is that it has a depth of field of 30mm.
Having these attractive features make the world tiniest camera perfect for wearable’s, forensic, dental, and veterinary applications.

This camera had initially been developed and design for medical appliances like endoscopes and catheters. Being the only ultra-small “Chip on tip” the camera extended its implementation to other fields.
Here’s what the company had to say-
“Due to the sensor’s low power consumption, less heat is generated at the distal tip of the endoscope, improving patient comfort and thus permitting longer-duration procedures. The sensor enables easy integration, with a 4-pin interface and analog data output, capable of data transmission of up to 4 meters with minimal signal noise.”
Aaron Chiang the marketing director at OmniVision Said:
“Previously, procedures in the body’s smallest anatomy were performed either blind or using low-quality images from fiberscopes, as existing cameras were too big and reusable endoscopes were not cost-effective,”
“The OVM6948 wafer-level camera module offers a compact, high-quality solution for disposable guidewires, catheters, and endoscopes, which are experiencing growing demand because of their ability to reduce cross-contamination risks, downtime inefficiencies and costs associated with the repairs, preprocedural testing, and sterilization of reusable endoscopes. Also, these compact disposable medical devices can improve patient comfort and shorten recovery time.”
The world tiniest camera OVM6948 is now available for volume production in the tray format along with an evaluation kit.
